Event glossary: what each term means, in plain words.

Matchmaking, networking, check-in, registration, captured lead: terms that get used as synonyms and are not. Here is what each one means and how it works in Circli.

AI matchmaking: Suggestions of whom to meet at an event, put together by artificial intelligence from the interests and goals each person entered in their profile, with the reason behind each suggestion. The AI suggests; each person decides whom to talk to.; In Circli: It is in the free plan for events of up to 100 attendees; above that number it pauses for the whole event.; Learn more: AI matchmaking
AI agenda: A suggested day for each attendee: which talks to see within the event program, based on their profile. The AI suggests; each person decides what to see.; In Circli: It is a separate module from matchmaking and is not in the free plan.; Learn more: AI agenda
Networking: Everything that gets an event’s attendees to meet and keep talking: the attendee directory, messages and the meetups anyone can propose. Matchmaking is one part of networking, not a synonym.; In Circli: It happens in the event portal, in the browser. Which pieces are on depends on the plan and on what the organizer turns on.
1:1 meeting: A scheduled meeting between two people at the event, with a day, a time and a place. In a business-matching round, the organizer receives the applications, approves the pairs and builds the grid.; In Circli: It is a module switched on per event: attendees book each other, or apply to a round the organizer curates. Both sides are notified.
Registration: Signing a person up for an event before it starts. It is not the same as check-in, which records who arrived on the day.; In Circli: From the event’s public page, with an email address. The person gets a confirmation with their QR ticket and, once the portal is open, the link to enter.; Learn more: Registration
Imported list: The attendee spreadsheet the organizer already has, for example the one their ticketing provider exports, uploaded to the event system instead of asking everyone to register again.; In Circli: It is uploaded as it comes. Each person on the list has their QR once they enter the portal with their email; until then, the team checks them in by name at the door.; Learn more: Imported list
Check-in: The record of who arrived, at the event door. Also called accreditation. It is the real attendance figure of an event.; In Circli: The team scans the person’s QR from a phone or a laptop, or finds them by name on the list. The organizer watches the check-in count live and exports the list at closing.; Learn more: Check-in
Event portal: The event’s web page for each attendee, separate from the public page: inside are their agenda, their profile, their suggestions and their QR.; In Circli: People enter with their email or Google, with nothing to download and no password to create.; Learn more: Event portal
My Card (personal QR): Each attendee’s personal QR, for sharing their contact with someone else at the event. For people without an emailed ticket, for example from an imported list, it also identifies them at the door.; In Circli: It lives in the event portal. Whoever scans it saves the contact in their “My Network”, each person’s contact list.
Captured lead: A contact an exhibitor takes away from their booth, with the visitor’s permission. It is what justifies the cost of the booth for the exhibitor.; In Circli: Each booth has its QR: the visitor scans it and the exhibitor gets their name and company; at closing they download their spreadsheet. Booth game: A points game that takes the crowd around the venue: each booth visited adds points, and the points go into a raffle or are exchanged for prizes.; In Circli: The organizer chooses how much each booth is worth and runs the raffle at the end of the day; in plans with prize delivery, prizes are redeemed at a desk.
